Charleswood Karate is a proud member of IKD. Originally part of ISKF, Sensei Ron Porath & his senior instructors recognized the progressive approach taken by Sensei Frank Woon-a-tai, the technical chairman, of IKD and decided to join and become part of this advanced organization.
IKD is a very new organization but is comprised of many experienced Karate-ka. Even though it was just formed early this year it has grown to include a very large international group of countries and still continues to grow.
The IKD is a worldwide karate organization based out of Toronto, Ontario. Daigaku means College or University in Japanese. Thus IKD is focused on teaching and developing the art of karate for the betterment of its members.
The International Karate Daigaku is a new World Karate Organization that is dedicated to the teachings of Masters Funakoshi and Nakayama. Master Funakoshi saw karate as an unfinished art that would grow with knowledge. The IKD will work to further the art by studying the medical and scientific aspects of karate. All aspects of karate shall be studied and analyzed including: philosophy, physical education and fitness, self defense, and sport.
