When, Where, How Much, & Who’s Going!

Langdon Activity Center

Karate & Self Defense Camp 2012

WHEN:  August 11 & 12, from 12-6 PM on both days.

Yes, this is a LOT of training but it’s a camp that is open to people who are brand new to karate, as well as to experienced practitioners.  It’s always up to you how hard you train, since YOU are the one who benefits from challenging yourself but knowing when to slow down.

Segments of each day will be split out by rank at times, so everyone will get great information specific to their level, no matter if you’re brand new to karate or have been training for years.

WHERE:  Langdon Activity Center,510 10th Ave, Langdon, ND  (accomodations info below)

HOW MUCH:  $20/day (accommodations & meals not included)  (this event is over, was held from Aug 11-12, 2012)

WHO WILL BE THERE:  In terms of instructors, Sensei Phil, Sensei Ryan and Sensei Ron will all be teaching at this camp, along with Sensei La Royce Batchleor from UND Hisshou Karate in Grand Forks, ND.

In terms of Charleswood Karate students planning to go, Sempai Jill is going to be there (and hoping for a clear night for that meteor shower, even if it’s at 4 AM!) and a few other people are considering it, so if you’re at all interested, come on out and have a great time!

And of course since it’s purposely set up in their backyard, students from the UND Hisshou Karate club will be taking part as well.

Age cut off is listed as 13+ but if you’re not quite 13, talk to Sensei Ron.

About The Instructors

The Charleswood Karate Instructors pages are in dire need of update and are on “the list”.

You can see the currently-posted information for Sensei Phil Harris, Sensei Ryan Porath and Sensei Ron Porath.

Sensei La Royce Batchleor is a Nidan with the International Shotokan Karate Federation (aka ISKF), training and instructing in Grand Forks, North Dakota.

Shotokan Karate in Grand Forks

Sensei La Royce Batchleor

Sensei La Royce began her training in Winnipeg at the Charleswood Karate club, in 2005, and after advancing all the way up to Shodan with our club, in 2009 she had an opportunity to continue her education in North Dakota.

When she arrived at the University of North Dakota, she found the Shotokan karate club was defunct – she had nowhere close by to train, unless she opened her own club…

Since 2009 Sensei La Royce has taken on the brave task of starting a karate club from scratch (as has Sensei Phil) and the club celebrates its 3rd anniversary in November of 2012.

Sensei Ryan and Sensei Phil have regularly visited Sensei La Royce’s club in the past few years in order to support its initial growth as guest instructors.  CK and UND-H will be posting more joint events in the coming months.

Until next time, see you at the dojo!

Sempai Jill Lampi holds the rank of Nidan and started her training in 1991. Sempai Jill joined Charleswood Karate in 2011 and trains, teaches, competes, takes pictures and videos, and manages Charleswood's social media profiles, as well as running a personal site dedicated to Shotokan karate.
