Heijoshin Karate is organizing a karate tournament for brown and black belts who practice Shotokan in Manitoba.
Any Shotokan dojo can participate, regardless of club or affiliation.
Next Tournament: Jan 28, 2012, 2-4p
Hosted by: Charleswood Karate club
The Inter-Dojo Shotokan League (IDSL) is an annual tournament for brown and black belt competitors that takes place over several dates throughout the year, and is open to all Shotokan Karate organizations in Manitoba.
The IDSL season is similar to a season of soccer or hockey and consists of league matches that start in January and end in November of each year.
Competition days are to be held on the last Saturday of the month at a host dojo. Points are tracked throughout the season, and at the end of the year awards are given to the top three competitors in each category.
The IDSL is a fun way for participants to maintain their competitive edge throughout the year. It is also a great way for judges-in-training to improve their skills and gain confidence in their judging ability.
The IDSL is looking for competitors and judges to participate in the first event of the 2012 season on January 28th, 2012 at Charleswood Karate, 5924 Roblin Blvd. If you are interested in signing up, click here for more info!

Happy New Year!
In September 2011, Charleswood Karate introduced a new specialized class for female students at the beginner level. Taught by women for women, this introductory class is designed to give women the opportunity to try Shotokan Karate in Winnipeg in a environment of laughter, learning, sweating and challenge!
The instructors of the Women’s Beginner Karate session are female black belts Jana and Heather (who are also part of the Manitoba competitive team), and their inaugural session from September to December 2011 was quite successful and a number of new students tested in December for the first time, being awarded their yellow belts for their efforts. Congrats to everyone!
Now as January approaches, the second session of the Women’s Beginner Karate classes are about to begin.
Do you know a woman in your family, or someone at work who might be interested in trying it out? Send them the link to this post, or share it on your Facebook profile, or on Twitter. It’s our current members who are the most powerful when it comes to getting the word out!
If you’re a woman who is already training at Charleswood dojo as a regular member, you’re welcome to join the Women’s Beginner classes on Monday mornings as part of your regular training package. The classes will be structured towards the new student, within their first 3-12 months of training, but all levels are welcome to attend to help demonstrate spirit and augment their own workout schedule.
Talk to Sempai Heather or Sempai Jana if you’d like to attend.
The better you know your test, the better you'll do!
