[singlepic id=247 w=320 h=240 float=right]Thank you to all who participated in the recent seminar and testing with Shihan Maureen Woon-a-tai at Garden City Collegiate. It looks like everyone trained hard and had a good time! Sensei Ron is very proud of everyone!
Even during the black out on Friday night which affected not only Garden City Collegiate, but 10 other schools in the area, it seems like everyone had fun! We all used that opportunity to reconnect with old friends, or meet some new people who train at other IKD Shotokan clubs around Winnipeg.
Thankfully, the lights came up in time to conduct the Dan testings, because the other option was doing it at 9 AM before the Instructor’s Class!
A small selection of pictures have been uploaded to the Charleswood Karate Facebook Page – if you see yourself in them, tag yourself in the picture!
A larger selection of pictures are available here on the Charleswood Karate website in the Photo Gallery. Feel free to share them on Facebook with your family and friends!
Videos are being uploaded to our YouTube channel on a special playlist dedicated to this February 2012 seminar & testing with Shihan Maureen Woon-a-tai. There’s already about 10 videos up, and more to come! If Jill missed recording your kata, be sure to let her know you’d like to be recorded next time.
[singlepic id=206 w=320 h=240 float=left]To those who took part in last weekend’s first Inter-dojo Shotokan League event that was organized by Heijoshin Karate and hosted at the Charleswood Karate IKD Winnipeg club, thank you for making this event a great one!
With 30 competitors, plus volunteers to scorekeep and timekeep, and officials to run the two rings, this first league event went very smoothly and was a lot of fun.
A special thank you to the volunteers and officials, and to the doctors who tended to Phil and Ryan…
Competitors from Charleswood Karate group joined Heijoshin Karate a number of clubs: Winnipeg Budokai, Lac du Bonnet Karate Club, Victoria Karate Club, and Fort Garry Shotokan. Our thanks goes out to the members of those clubs who came out to participate in this fun league event.
If you’re interested in checking out photos from the event, there are a few different albums posted around the ‘net that I’ve found so far. Post a comment with a link if you know of another:
Scheduled tentatively for February 25, 2012 at Charleswood Karate IKD Winnipeg. Watch the IDSL website, this blog or talk to your instructors for updated information as the date nears.
[singlepic id=329 w=290 float=right]Since February 1, Sensei Ron has been running a karate class for senior-ranked youth students, ranked blue belt and higher. Adult blue to brown belts are also invited to attend, but the focus will be on the youth students.
If you’re planning on testing or competing in tournaments, you’ll want to attend this class regularly!
Senior adult students who teach or would like to, should attend to help out and learn some teaching tricks.
Next Class: Wed, June 6, 2012, 7-8p
Sensei said there will be special focus on:
Being able to take advantage of extra training opportunities is a treat to a keen martial artist, and Charleswood is certainly full of keen martial artists!
If you can’t think of questions, ask yourself if you know:
Any questions you have, be sure to ask.
See you at the dojo!
The better you know your test, the better you'll do!
