Sensei Phil Harris is one of Charleswood Karate’s longest-training members, with over 23 years of experience with Shotokan Karate.

Sensei Phil began teaching under Sensei Ron’s guidance in 2000.  In 2009, Sensei Phil was awarded the rank of Godan (5th level black belt), and in 2011 he became the Head Instructor of his own club, Heijoshin Karate and spearheaded the creation of the Inter-Dojo Shotokan League which regularly hosts its events at the Charleswood Karate facility.

Sensei Phil has an extensive competitive history right up to international-level karate tournaments at both junior and adult levels, and remains both an active competitor and a “team leader” for the rest of the Charleswood Karate team.

You can find Sensei Phil teaching during classes with a competition or kumite focus (especially the Elite Conditioning class), and he joins the general class for his own training regularly as well.

Aside from his passion for karate, Sensei Phil is employed in the computer technology field and enjoys the challenges and rewards of home ownership with his wife Kathy.

Sensei Phil’s focus on hard work in class is appreciated by those who know the essence of karate spirit.
