Improving and polishing up your technique must be one of the main goals of your home training sessions; Technique requires thousands of repetitions before it can be executed flawlessly.
Just as the name implies, the basic idea of shadow-sparring is to spar with an imaginary opponent. To shadow-spar, you need to visualize an opponent and react to all his offensive and defensive movements; as you keep sparring for some time, you start to build a rhythm, just as you would with an actual opponent.
However, it is important to note that, moving a few paces and throwing a few punches is not shadow-sparring. To shadow-spar you must always keep your guard up, keep moving and act as if an opponent really was there sparring with you.
This is an excellent way to build up endurance and improve footwork with no sparring partner needed.

Not everyone has a weight set at home; therefore, body weight and plyometric exercises can be used in the place of weight training.
Karate drills and exercises are loaded with these types exercises, it's actually what we are best at!

Taking proper rest is just as important as training. Therefore, it's important to make sure that you set aside a few days for your body to recover. However, it doesn't necessarily mean that you can't improve your martial arts skills on your rest days.

Use your rest days to watch and analyze your favourite martial artists; watch how they move and execute different techniques. Acquiring the best from the martial artists who have succeeded and integrating it to you can vastly improve your game!
